West Baton Rouge Museum offers a fascinating peek back in time, showcasing textiles, tools, medical equipment, art, photographs, weaponry and other regional artifacts from the late 18th century onward. The museum offers access to period architecture as well, featuring a restored 17th-century French Creole home, complete with early furnishings, slave cabins, and period gardens. Other attractions include a working model of a sugar mill, exhibiting the entire milling process from cane to raw sugar, and a restored 1930s shotgun home. The museum is located in Port Allen, just across the river from the Louisiana State Capitol building.
